This was from the day I visited Yuigahama Beach! It’s in Kamakura, a seaside city just an hour away from Tokyo that’s a pretty famous tourist destination. If people aren’t visiting the dozens of shrines and temples then they’re probably sitting at the beach chilling in front of the ocean. (I was at the beach)
It was my first time spending the day at a beach in JapanAnd in the first place I’ve only ever gone a couple times even back home, so I had a lot of fun walking around in the sand and watching people jump into the sea.
I’d like to say it’s officially summer, but the weather is always changing its mind and I think it was 24℃ that day. About the temperature of a nicely air-conditioned room—perfect for the beach, because I much prefer being a little cold to sweating the whole day.
I had the hugest plate of curry rice for lunch on the beachMy friends won over ¥5000 worth of food vouchers at this restaurant in a lucky draw so we basically had a feast. I’m not sure how financially viable it is for the owners to be so generous, but it’s great for all the hungry people at the beach. Would go back again (for free food)!
Salted butter and caramel ice cream! I’m adding this to my list of favourite things—eating dessert while looking at the sea. How poetic.
I’m sorry I’ve been slow with blog updates the past few weeksBasically all my social media’s taken a backseat during finals, so I’m trying to get back into the swing of things while catching up on sleep (way too difficult to do both simultaneously).
Anyway, long story short: I need to go back to the beach again.
Hello! I found more pictures of animal donuts in my camera folder that I hadn’t put on the blog so I thought the world needed to see how cute they are. Also because I’ve been marooned at home to study and haven’t gone out anywhere recently.
All these donuts were from Floresta Nature Doughnuts! They’re still coming out with new critters all the time, so there’s always a reason to trek over for a donut.
They did a collaboration with Rascal so these raccoon donuts were on sale for a limited time! That’s Rascal on the right, and I think that might be his girlfriend next to him (though I’m only assuming this because she’s pink).
They had a shiba inu donut too! Don’t you love those round little bushy eyebrows in the centre? They had a whole bunch of other animals on the counter but I’m partial to shiba inus sometimes so I picked this out of all of them. But I’ll eventually go back for more anyway
I’m here again with another round of snacks from the convenience store!
Fuwa fuwa sando (literally fluffy sandwich) from Lawson, with a tiny Kumamon in the corner! Which is pretty much the only reason I bought this. I’m so weak. Maybe they figured out it would double their sales if they took an extra five minutes to photoshop Kumamon into the packaging.
But the taste was decent, so that’s okayIt really did live up to its name too. It was so soft I dented it as soon as I touched it.
These Melonpan no Boushi (hat of melonpan) Biscuits were way more addictive than I expected them to be, and I didn’t even notice until I’d finished the whole pack. They’re like buttery mini melonpans that crumble nicely and sneakily make you eat them all at once because they’re bite-sized. One of the better snacks I’ve had so far! Also, they really do look like hats. Heehee.
There always has to be a Pocky! This time it’s a summer version—salted chocolate Pocky that tastes best right out of the fridgeThe little salt crystals actually make such a big difference from the usual Pocky. Or is that just me being manipulated by packaging again?
On the back there’s a little chart that shows you the musical tones you can make by biting different parts of the Pocky stick. It amused me for a minute, but then I gave up and ate my Pocky normally because I have no musical prowess and I didn’t think I was likely to discover it in a box of biscuit sticks.
Crunky came up with a new strawberry and cereal flavour and it’s ridiculously good because I love cereal and this was full of it. Also it’s strawberry pink, and you know I like anything cuteIt’s a thin bar too, so it’s easy to keep in your pocket till you want to eat it.
I foresee a lot of snacking this finals month
I’m here with pictures of pancakes again. I had hotcake mix lying around at home, so one Saturday when I was alone at home with nothing to do and no one to eat with I just opened it and dumped it all into the mixing bowl. It turns out that pancake mix could actually feed a lot of peopleNo matter how much I poured into the pan they just wouldn’t stop multiplying.
I ended up with a whole stack, so I just played dress up and decorated most of them with whipped cream and a chocolate pen. This was the nicest (and most recognisable, I guess)I realised I make a lot of Totoro-themed desserts. He’s just so easy to reproduce. (Also, is Totoro a he? I’m never sure if I’m using the right pronoun)
And then because I ate too many pancakes at breakfast I tried my best to pack in more nutrition at lunch. This is my homemade lunch plate of veggies, tamagoyaki and corn soupI skipped past the pancakes and sent a picture of this to my mom instead.
It’s July, which means it’s finals monthBut it’s also almost summer vacation time! I’m surviving on the hope that soon I get to travel and go home for break. The heat has come to Tokyo and I’m not sure what to think about it…I’ve only ever been here during the cold seasons and this doesn’t feel like the Japan I know and love. Just kidding. Shaved ice! Yukata! Summer festivals! I want to do them all once I’m done with the semester
